About Tarascon
Tarascon's massive square-towered medieval castle of King René rises sheer from the Rhône bank and is one of the best-preserved fifteenth-century royal residences in France. The town gives its name to the Tarasque, the legendary river-monster supposedly tamed by Saint Martha and celebrated each June in a UNESCO-listed festival. Most operators use a Tarascon call to launch coach excursions to Les Baux-de-Provence and the Carrières de Lumières immersive art quarry in the Alpilles hills behind the town.
