About Koblenz
Koblenz sits at the Deutsches Eck, the spit of land where the Moselle joins the Rhine beneath the colossal equestrian statue of Wilhelm I. The Ehrenbreitstein fortress on the opposite bank is reached by cable car and gives the best photograph of the confluence. Ships generally call here as the southern bookend of the Rhine Gorge run, and many itineraries arrange an afternoon scenic cruise up-river from Koblenz so passengers can see the castles of the Mittelrhein from the top deck in daylight.
