About Pocinho
Pocinho is the small Douro berth used as the gateway to the Côa Valley Archaeological Park, where over a thousand prehistoric rock engravings have been documented in open-air settings along the Côa River canyon. Most operators offer a guided 4×4 visit to the Penascosa or Canada do Inferno engraving sites in the late afternoon, when the low sun raises the contrast on the carvings. A small but excellent museum on the cliff above the river presents the discovery and the engravings themselves.
