About Bamberg
Bamberg's old town is a UNESCO World Heritage site whose historic centre straddles the Regnitz river — the half-timbered Old Town Hall sits on its own island in mid-stream, painted on both river fronts with eighteenth-century frescoes. The cathedral with the equestrian Bamberger Reiter statue, the Bishop's Garden behind it, and the Schlenkerla brewery serving its smoke-flavoured Rauchbier are the standard tour stops. Cruise vessels berth on the Main-Donau-Kanal a short walk south of the old town.
