About Vicksburg
Vicksburg, Mississippi is the site of the 47-day siege that ended in Confederate surrender on 4 July 1863, splitting the Confederacy in two and giving the Union control of the Mississippi. The Vicksburg National Military Park preserves the trench lines, monuments and the recovered ironclad USS Cairo. The antebellum Anchuca and Cedar Grove mansions and the small but excellent Old Court House Museum complete the shore-excursion options. Cruise vessels moor at the city waterfront below the bluffs.
