About Bagan
Bagan is the eleventh- to thirteenth-century capital whose plain along the Irrawaddy holds over two thousand surviving Buddhist temples, stupas and pagodas — the densest concentration of religious monuments anywhere in Asia. Cruise passengers explore the major temples (Ananda, Dhammayangyi, Sulamani) by horse-drawn cart in the morning, and the dawn balloon flight over the temple plain is one of the most-booked optional excursions on the river. Sunset from a high-terraced pagoda is a fixture of every itinerary.
